Shen Life Origin

The origin of Shen Life lies in the heart of visionary Stephen Rogers.

From a young age, Stephen realized there was something missing from his life, and from the whole of humanity. From time to time, he experienced this something as a delightful ease, radically different from anything in his everyday life. (He would not begin to understand these experiences until sometime later.) In his early teens, Stephen's life gradually drifted away from being an honor roll student, accomplished athlete, and respectful son, to an abusive and self-destructive young man. This downward spiral culminated into alcohol and drug abuse, frequent violent episodes, and a brief stay in federal prison. To make a long story short, he hit rock bottom! Determined to straighten out his life, Stephen committed himself to an intense self-examination.

Alongside his self-examination practice, he began an intense academic study. Initially, he dove into the Bible, by entering into a college curriculum aimed at a bachelor's degree of Biblical Studies. One semester shy of graduation, Stephen reconciled that the Bible was limited in its scope, and wanted a deeper scientific and biological understanding of human development. So, he entered into a Course in Eastern Philosophy and Chinese Medicine. Stephen completed a bachelor's degree in Professional Health Studies and a Master's Degree in Oriental Medicine. In the meantime, he committed himself to extensive studies in the fields of Human Development, Esoteric Christianity, Taoism, and the Yoga Sciences.

Not long into his quest, a powerful energy began to move throughout his body. With this the experiences from his childhood returned; however, these experiences returned with much greater intensity and frequency than before. This led to a shift into what he calls a Shen Life (a Spirit-driven life).

At first, Stephen was mainly interested in personal development, but over time this path compelled him to move beyond individual growth to participate in the collective advancement of humanity. Reflecting on his own experience and gleaning from his studies the best they had to offer, Stephen formed Shenology Technologies, which is the parent company of several cutting edge educational technologies for business, healing, longevity, and personal development.  Though, Stephen is a teacher, healer, author, inventor, endurance athlete, and public speaker he thinks of himself more as a "futurist" whose primary objective is to make the impossible possible.

And then, there were two...

In the late nineties, Erica sought an education at the University of Central Florida. Physical therapy seemed to be a popular pursuit and it involved some of her long lasting interests: health, movement and people. However, at a critical juncture of her schooling, she realized physical therapy did not excite her...the pre-requisite volunteer work convinced her she was going the wrong direction. Around that time, Erica also became increasingly disenchanted with the western medical establishment when she received poor help curing some chronic conditions she suffered. After giving up on a specialized degree, she opened her options by studying health science (generally), behavioral and social science and minored in computer science.

Fortunately, she did not drift long without a plan. After a chance meeting at a restaurant, Stephen Rogers introduced Erica to the captivating field of holistic healing, wellness and personal development from his biological perspective in Chinese Medicine. "I can remember sitting in awe after Stephen explained the interconnectedness of health, wellness, healing and human development. It was like someone told me the secret formula of the universe and put everything in its right place. Life, everything, just made sense." Ironically, Erica had studied nutrition, health, psychology and even fitness, but the classes never put the information into practical terms as Stephen does so effectively. It was that simple, Erica found a path to living life that appealed to her sensibilities and interests.

Later, Stephen shared his vision of an online business venture that presented all of the Teachings for people to study on their own and use to transform themselves. In that instant, something hit Erica in the gut and she knew without a doubt that she found a direction for her life and career that excited her, plus she found a man she wanted to grow old with...yes this is a love story too. With Stephen's guidance, she found a way to incorporate and understand all of her interests: dance, medicine, internet business, personal growth and ancient oriental wisdom. Erica became Stephen's shadow, completed training in massage therapy, studied holistic healing and yoga science, while completing a bachelor's degree in 2000. "If I had to sum up Erica, she is a walking, talking "dynamo!" ~ SDR. After working as a home-based massage therapist and mindful fitness trainer in Orlando, Stephen and Erica moved to Los Angeles and opened the Shen Life Center. We used that time and Center like a laboratory where the Shen Life Teachings blossomed. When the opportunity arose late in 2006, Stephen and Erica leveraged their center and sold it with the intention to finally embark on their vision of an empire on the virtual frontier. And, now we're doing it! 

The original vision has grown tremendously. The parent company, Shenology Technologies, which is dedicated to humanity's inherent desire "to know thyself" serves as host for four different educational programs. Shen Life is the foundational philosophy or the "how to" framework "to know thyself" and live from there fully and completely; AIM (Attentive Integrative Movement) puts this introspective practice into motion in a mindful fitness program; AMEN (Assisted Myo-Fascial Networking) provides a modality of healing work based in the Shen Life philosophy; and WholistiCenter is a business model for individuals to follow whom are interested in making a career out of all of the Shenology Technologies.
